Compuware Achieves CMM Level 3 Certification

London, UK -12th March, 2004 - Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ: CPWR) today announced the Compuware Testing and Integration Center (TIC) has undergone an assessment against the Capability Maturity Model for Software (SW-CMM) and has been rated at CMM Level 3. The TIC is Compuware's internal quality assurance organization, responsible for testing the integration between Compuware products and product families, as well as demonstrating how Compuware's products are used in a production environment.
Developed by the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (SEI), the SW-CMMTM is a respected industry yardstick used to measure the maturity of software development processes. With the achievement of CMM Level 3 status, Compuware's TIC has proven its ability to measure and improve performance in the areas of time-to-market, overall product quality, cost of development and project planning. According to a September 2003 report issued by the SEI, only 25.6 per cent of companies participating in the CMM certification process have achieved Level 3 status.
"CMM Level 3 certification is not just a significant achievement for Compuware - it is also a benefit that few, if any other vendors are positioned to pass on to their customers in the unique way that Compuware does," said Kevin Cowsill, Senior Vice President of Quality, Customer Support and Technical Communications, Compuware Corporation. "We created the TIC to elevate our own internal software development processes to the highest levels of quality through discipline, rigorous process and best-practices. When we realised the impact the TIC was having within our own organisation, we decided to offer these proven methodologies, processes and technologies to our customers through the Compuware Application Reliability Solution."
The Compuware Application Reliability Solution (CARS) gives Compuware customers greater control over application delivery by uniting proven processes, a rich portfolio of technology, and quality assurance expertise. Certified CARS teams go to customer sites to establish Quality Assurance Centres based on the TIC model. By linking development, quality assurance and operations, CARS gives organisations the confidence that applications will meet business requirements and perform reliably once they are deployed.
The achievement of CMM Level 3 status recognises that the Compuware TIC is at the "defined" level of CMM. This means that the software process for both management and engineering activities is documented, standardized and integrated into a standard software process for the organisation. All projects use an approved, tailored version of the organisation's standard software process for developing and maintaining software.
"A commitment to application quality is not only the basis for Compuware's vision and product offerings, but is also a driving force within our organisational culture," said Cowsill. "For us, the achievement of CMM Level 3 status demonstrates our ongoing dedication to improving quality within our own product lines. It also provides an 'industry-approved' vehicle through which we can pass this knowledge and its benefits along to our customers by sharing our methodologies, expertise and technology."
Compuware Corporation, a leading provider of software and technology services, delivers industrial-strength solutions for the enterprise computing environment that dramatically improve productivity, quality and performance across the application life-cycle.
