the Industry

London, UK - 11th January 2005 - Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ:
CPWR) today announced the release of a new version of its IT governance
solution, Compuware IT Governance by Changepoint. This release
delivers the industry's broadest integrated IT governance and management
capabilities through integrations across Compuware's development, quality
and service management offerings. The new version will begin shipping
on the 15th January, 2005.
Compuware defines integrated IT governance and management as unified business management processes and systems that enable consolidated control and visibility over the key IT portfolios of projects, applications and infrastructure. Compuware's vision is to provide IT management with a complete picture of the performance of technology investments, enabling more effective governance, improved decision-making and proactive management of IT value and risk.
"IT organisations are extremely complex businesses within businesses. For too long IT has relied on cobbled-together solutions for managing the business of IT service delivery," said Theresa Lanowitz of Gartner. "There is a strong move afoot to ensure optimal IT efficiency and alignment by investing in the same class of integrated business systems that IT has been deploying for line of business clients for years. These investments will greatly improve the ability of IT organisations to manage, govern and drive value for the business."
Compuware is unique in its ability to manage the life-cycle of both legacy and distributed systems. Integrating a broad portfolio of development, quality assurance and service management solutions enhances Compuware IT Governance by Changepoint's capabilities for managing application and infrastructure portfolios. Leveraging key business metrics from the company's foundation of tools plus third-party applications, Compuware's IT governance offering is the first solution that enables the C-level management of all IT investments and unparalleled visibility into the health of application and infrastructure portfolios.
"IT organisations must not only address the needs of the business, but also demonstrate and communicate how technology investments contribute to corporate objectives. A lack of integrated, accurate and timely information about IT performance has historically prevented CIOs from doing so," said Dan Schoenbaum, Vice President Strategy, Compuware Corporation. "Compuware's vision for comprehensive IT governance and management removes those obstacles by providing process integration and performance management data from across the IT life-cycle. Compuware stands alone in the market in its ability to deliver on this vision."
"We see significant value in Compuware's strategic direction in application and infrastructure portfolio management. Consolidated visibility into the attributes and performance of applications and infrastructure assets enables organisations to not only invest in the right things, but also ensure that existing investments remain aligned and continue to provide value," said Andy Harbison, AVP, IT Enabling Services, Sun Life Financial Canada. "This type of information enables IT to better track and manage the implementation of enterprise architecture standards, compliance and sun setting strategies, while reducing complexity, risk and costs within IT."
Application and Infrastructure Portfolio Management
Applying a portfolio management discipline to application and infrastructure
assets enables organisations to ensure that IT investments are cost effective
and support business needs by providing a consistent framework for evaluating
and communicating risk, performance, cost and value. Compuware IT Governance
by Changepoint catalogues and categorises application and infrastructure
investments in ways that are meaningful to an organisation's unique business
requirements. The solution immediately benefits businesses by highlighting
ways to eliminate redundancy, reduce maintenance costs and improve alignment
with business needs.
Integrations with Compuware IT Governance by Changepoint will ship with Compuware's service management solutions, including Compuware Vantage, Compuware Strobe and Compuware Abend-AID Fault Manager. The solution will enable enhanced health monitoring and cost analysis of application and infrastructure portfolios by providing insight into availability, reliability and other key performance metrics. Combined with other key metrics, such as service requests, maintenance and other costs and client satisfaction, customers will gain the necessary insight for comprehensive charge-backs and analysis of value, risk and alignment of IT investments on an ongoing basis. Organisations will also be able to assess service level performance from both service request responsiveness and application availability and reliability perspectives.
Project Portfolio Management
Compuware's IT governance solution will also provide unmatched risk management
and project health monitoring capabilities for software development projects.
By integrating with the Compuware Application Reliability Solution (CARS),
project portfolios that contain development projects will benefit from
new metrics that communicate a software quality index. This integration
not only increases the accuracy of tracking and evaluating a project's
health and risk, it also reduces the administrative burden of collecting
and entering data into multiple systems for reporting.
Performance Reporting and Integrated Workflow
IT executives and managers gain a broader and more complete view of the
performance of projects, applications and infrastructure through management
reports and a configurable portal that offer information originating in
Compuware IT Governance by Changepoint, other Compuware solutions
and third party applications. Operations management and staff will also
benefit from integrated request assignment and tracking workflow tied
to alerts generated by Vantage and Fault Manager. This integrated workflow
will ensure that issues are acted on in a timely fashion and provide valuable
management visibility into service responsiveness, resource utilisation,
allocation and cost.
